Caribbean Winter Getaways

With Thanksgiving behind us and the holiday season in full gear, it means months of snowy days and chilly temperatures are ahead for many areas in the U.S. and Canada. Along with the snowy weather are plenty of vacation options for those interested in making the most of winter. For some, it’s taking ski vacations or visiting mountain lodges. But for me, it’s the time of year to trade freezing temperatures for sunny skies and island vibes. If you are like me, here are some Caribbean islands to keep in mind when planning your winter getaway:

Aruba
Its world-class beaches, always-perfect weather, and warm and welcoming culture make Aruba an ideal place to visit at any time of year. But its warm 80-degree temperatures draw in visitors looking to escape mid-winter. Aruba’s climate is dry, and rainy days are scarce, making it easy to navigate this small island. And, with direct flights from major U.S. and Canadian cities, it makes it convenient to get to this happy island.

Curacao
With expansive coral reefs filled with marine life, Curacao is a scuba divers and snorkelers paradise. But Curacao has so much more to offer. Its blend of European and Caribbean flair, pristine beaches, perfect weather, pastel-colored colonial architecture, local art, and vibrant nightlife also lure tourists in.

Grand Cayman
Grand Cayman fuses art with culture, and nature with wonder, to produce the perfect atmosphere. On the west side of the island is award-winning Seven Mile Beach, a crescent-shaped stretch of sand with infinite possibilities. The North Sound is home to a neighborhood of stingrays that is so big, it is called a city. Off the beaches of Grand Cayman, you can lose yourself in the luxury of George Town, surrounded by traditional architecture, restaurants, and duty-free shopping.

Jamaica
Spacious white sand beaches exist alongside lush mountainous terrain, allowing for both complete relaxation and endless adventures. One day can be spent soaking up the sun and the next exploring Dunn’s River Falls. From Kingston to Montego Bay and Negril to Ocho Rios the beautiful scenery calls to you. But one of the biggest draws to the island is the people. They are warm and welcoming and will be the reason you will want to go back time and time again.

Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia beckons visitors in with its mountains, white sandy beaches, volcanic mud baths, and lush rainforests. Adventure travelers can spend their time hiking, exploring waterfalls, snorkeling in crystal clear waters, or searching for some of the almost 200 types of bird species.  When evening comes, it is time to indulge in authentic island food and club hopping on the Rodney Bay strip.
