Navigating the Festive Skies – Your Guide to Merry and Stress-Free Holiday Travel

As the festive season approaches, the magic of Christmas beckons us to embark on journeys filled with joy and warmth. Are you heading home for the holidays to be with family or are you heading with family to a tropical destination to call home for the holidays?
The enchantment of holiday travel often comes with its own set of challenges. Navigating through crowded airports, unpredictable weather, and the hustle and bustle of the season requires a thoughtful approach to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. In this travel guide, I will help you plan as best as possible with some tips and tricks designed to make your holiday travel as seamless as possible.
BEFORE YOU HEAD TO THE AIRPORT…At the time of booking make certain all details, including spelling of names and travel dates, are correct also provide your e-mail address and mobile phone number. You can usually check-in online as most airlines have mobile apps now. Do this within 24 hours prior to your scheduled flight, this will save time at the airport. Check the flight status before going to the airport and allow enough time to meet the check in cut-off deadlines. Many airport websites have information and services to ease the process, such as posted wait times for check-in and security, the ability to pre-book screening and reserve parking.

TOOLS FOR TRAVELLERS…Most airlines have mobile apps that deliver all the needed mobile tools and services directly to any Apple or Android device. The apps can be used to check-in, to securely store customer contact information, preferences and payment details, arrange for checked baggage, and to obtain a boarding pass (eliminating the need for a paper boarding pass). The app also allows the airline to communicate directly with you should there be any updates to your travel itinerary.

BAGGAGE…Make sure to follow your airlines baggage allowance, this can be found on the airline’s website. Make sure you understand your allowance for both checked luggage as well as your carry on. Know your limits and pack within them, so there are no surprises at the airport. Any required medication, keys and valuables – including money, electronics, and jewelry – should be kept in a carry-on bag.  Attach a sturdy identification tag to all checked baggage as well as your carry on, tuck inside each tag a business card or similar item with contact details. Customers should be mindful that excess carry-on baggage can result in boarding and flight delays, so limit yourself to 1 carry on.
DOCUMENTS & APPS FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL…On the U.S. Department of State’s travel website: travel.state.gov you’ll find a wealth of information, including travel advisories, visa requirements, and tips for staying safe while abroad. The website is regularly updated to provide the latest and most accurate information. Before traveling, it’s a good idea to check for any travel advisories or alerts for your destination. Additionally, the website provides resources for obtaining or renewing passports, information on specific countries, and details about services for U.S. citizens abroad.

The Mobile Passport app allows you to submit your passport and customs declaration information electronically, potentially saving time when arriving at U.S. airports.

The CBP Border Wait Times app provides real-time information on border crossing wait times, so you can plan your travel accordingly.

Global Entry (GOES) Mobile Enrollment: If you’re a Global Entry member, this app allows you to manage your account and complete your required interviews.

MORE HELPFUL INFO…Arlines websites usually contain a great deal of other useful information. Customers with special needs should contact the airline in advance to ensure accessibility assistance is provided. People taking skis, golf clubs, musical instruments or other over sized items can usually find information on best packing ideas on the airlines website as well.
The more knowledgeable and prepared you are in advance of your trip, the better off you will be when the day arrives. This is the busiest time for the travel industry and with so many people filling those trains, planes, and automobiles everyone has the same goal and that is to arrive at their destination safely.
